Scientist or engineer for Biomaterial development in a Medtech startup
Do you look for a internship to get your first working experience? Would you like to work in a young, fast-moving startup in a highly-diverse, motivated team? Would you like to do lab work, which will turn into a real product to improve peoples life? Then contact us!
Lumendo is a Medtech startup and a Spin-off from ETH Zürich and EPFL Lausanne. We develop injectable, photopolymerizable implants for application in dentistry, orthopedic and neurosurgery. We are looking for scientist or engineer to help us turn our first prototype into a real product.
**Project description**
Root-canal treatments are among the most difficult procedures in dentistry. This often leads to a failure of the treatment and a reinfection of the tooth. Lumendo is developing a light-activated, easy-to-use root canal filling material, which can make the treatment faster and easier and improve the treatment outcome, thus helping people to keep their natural teeth longer.
You will be responsible for testing and optimizing the material prototypes to meet the clinical requirements. This includes the execution of several material performance and safety tests. Furthermore, you will assist the team in setting up developing a suitable packaging and conduct pre-clinical as well as clinical testing of the product. This will give you the chance to interact with researchers, clinicians and regulatory experts relevant to development of a medical device.
**Your tasks**
- Ex-vivo photo-polymerization efficiency tests.
- Mechanical/ physical testing of biomaterials using Universal Testing Machine, force sensors, etc.
- Material stability, shelf life, transportation tests by gravimetric and spectroscopic analysis.
- Identify suitable production partners. Identify, develop and test suitable packaging options.
**Your profile**
- Bachelor degree in biomedical science or biomedical engineering with at least 6 months of laboratory experience. Good understanding of chemistry and/or biology is a plus.
- Experience in mechanical testing, CAD, programming and/ or aseptic laboratory techniques is a plus.
- Interested in biomaterials and medical devices.
Highly motivated and responsible; outgoing and hands-on personality.
- Independent and well-organized working style.
**What we offer**
- An interesting project for your internship, master thesis or first employment.
- A work that matters and can help improve people’s life.
- A fast-moving startup environment, giving you high responsibility and lots of freedom.
- A young, entrepreneurial and motivated team.
