Develop an Additive Manufacturing Based Thermal Management Module for the ALPA PLATON Platform
A new cooling module has to be developed and added to the camera system to enable uninterrupted operation and avoid costly interruptions on the set due to overheating. Polymeric (SLS, FDM) and and Metal (SLM) additive technologies are accessible for the manufacturing of the module.

ALPA is a well established manufacturer of high end medium format cameras. Due to the increasing market demand for hybrid solutions capable of capturing both still and moving pictures, ALPA envisions to enhance its product portfolio with video making solutions. In the past three years ALPA gained important experience in the manufacturing of non business critical Additively Manufactured accessories in small series. Based on positive market response, and on the economic limitations of machining technologies for of low volume series, ALPA now decided to extend the use of the technology to functional core assemblies within a CTI project together with pd|z.

The company is currently performing the first market tests of a complete hybrid platform named PLATON. First field test of the system collected a very positive feedback from lead customers, but also highlighted the necessity of improving the thermal management of the camera digital back. Long operation of the camera currently results in sensor shutdown due to overheating. A new cooling module has to be added to the system to avoid costly interruptions on the set due to overheating. Polymeric (SLS, FDM) and and Metal (SLM) additive technologies are accessible for the manufacturing of the module.
**Tasks**
- Analyse the H6D100c sensor module from Hasselblad and understand heat magnitude and heat propagation (IR-Thermal Imaging, Field Testing)
- Conceptualise several cooling alternatives and dimensioning according to analytical modelling
- Choice, early prototyping and testing of promising concepts for validation purposes
- Detail design and optimisation of the final design concept
