Student research assistant for designing and building an experimental setup to investigate an electrochemical cooling process
As the global energy demand for cooling and heating continuously increases, sustainable and efficient heating and cooling technologies are needed. Here, electrochemical processes are promising technologies.
We are looking for an ETH student interested in designing and building a suitable experimental setup to investigate electrochemical cooling.
**Our profile:**
The Energy and Process Systems Engineering (EPSE) Group focuses on sustainability in energy and chemical process systems. We develop methods to advance sustainable energy and chemical process systems from the molecular to the systems scale. At EPSE, you will be part of a young and motivated research team.
**The project:**
As the global energy demand for cooling and heating continuously increases, sustainable and efficient heating and cooling technologies are needed. Here, electrochemical processes are promising technologies.
At EPSE, we investigate an innovative indirect electrochemical cooling process, which combines parts of a classical vapor-compression refrigeration cycle with an electrochemical cell.
After numerically evaluating the potential of this process, we now aim to set up an experiment to evaluate this process in more detail. For this purpose, we are looking for an ETH student interested in designing and building a suitable experimental setup to investigate electrochemical cooling.
**Requirements**:
- Passion for constructive mechanical engineering (CAD, design, and selection of connections, seals, etc.).
- First experience with experimental work, e.g., in the context of a bachelor thesis. Desirable in electrochemistry but not mandatory.
- Technical and practical skills
- Highly motivated with an independent and goal-oriented way of working
**Tasks:**
- Generation of CAD drawings
- Design and construction of an experimental setup
