Lamb wave ultrasound tunneling and imaging through solid plates
Ultrasound and optoacoustic imaging are very useful tools for non-destructive testing of materials and biomedical imaging. However, there are several applications where a solid plate-like structure impedes direct wave propagation, making imaging and focusing incredible difficult, if not impossible.
Solid plates support dispersive waves called Lamb waves, some of which allow for high transmission of ultrasound. Finding such transmission channels is not trivial and requires fine tuning of the wave’s incidence angle and wavelength. The project consists in using our advanced spherical transducer arrays to find optimal transmission that would allow us to deliver and receive ultrasound through the plate for enhanced focusing and imaging.
Basic programming skills and familiarity with Matlab/python are required. Familiarity with wave physics theory is a bonus.

Perform experiments using available tools to find optimal Lamb wave tunneling and compare the experimental results against an existing model.
