Growth of Thin Films of Molecular Quantum Bits
Molecular quantum bits are molecular nanomagnets possessing particularly long spin coherence times. They are interesting building blocks for possible future quantum information processing applications.
Molecular quantum bits such as Cu-phthalocyanine or V(C8S8)3 are molecular magnetic coordination complexes exhibiting long spin coherence times. Currently, in our lab a new technique, X-ray detected electron paramagnetic resonance, is under development, which will allow to measure the spin coherence times of ultrathin films of molecular quantum bits. In this master thesis work you will grow films of different species by thermal sublimation in ultra high vacuum. Furthermore, you will characterize them by X-ray absorption spectroscopy and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism.
