Influence of particle size distribution on the SLM process
Research has shown an influence of the particle size distribution on the process parameters (such as laser power and scanning speed) of the SLM process. This influence is to be investigated in this thesis.
Selective laser melting (SLM) is a powder-based additive manufacturing process for the layerwise construction of metal components. The SLM process and thus the quality of the components are strongly influenced by the raw material - the powder.
Research has shown an influence of the particle size distribution on the process parameters (such as laser power and scanning speed) of the SLM process. However, this dependency has not yet been investigated in detail.
Inspire AG has recently installed an air separator, which allows the separation of specific powder fractions. This allows specific grain size distributions of test powders to be generated. In the course of this Semester work / Bachelor thesis / Master thesis, the processing window of specific particle size distributions (PSD) of powders will be experimentally investigated in order to determine the influence of the PSD on the processing parameters.
