Identifying muscle synergy patterns in patients with unstable knee joint after total knee arthroplasty
A muscle synergy is represented as a combination of a time-invariant muscle activation pattern, which is activated by time-dependent coefficients in a selected time frame, and muscle synergies whose activation patterns with only one or two main peaks are called fundamental synergies. Combined muscle synergies, which are similar to a linear combination of fundamental synergies, are often observed during daily activities. This combination resulted in reduction in the number of total muscle synergies, and a clear characterization of this phenomenon could be crucial to understanding pathological conditions such as instability. Thus, the aim of this project to identify and study combined synergies of low extremity muscles after total knee arthroplasty by using different algorithm-based methods, such as non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) and Principle component analysis (PCA).
