Super-resolution optoacoustic tomography
Optoacoustic imaging systems have reached spatio-temporal resolutions beyond what is possible with other imaging modalities, while additionally providing rich optical contrast offering unique capabilities in a myriad of biological studies. However, the resolution of state-of-the art optoacoustic tomography is still limited by acoustic diffraction, which prevents the visualization e.g. of small microvascular structures in vivo. The aim of this project is the development of a method based on analyzing the fluctuations in a sequence of optoacoustic images with the aim to break through the acoustic diffraction barrier.
The goal of the project is to develop an image processing platform that allows analyzing the fluctuations in a sequence of optoacoustic images with the aim to build compounded images with spatial resolution beyond the current limit imposed by acoustic diffraction. The project involves both hardware and software developments and is scalable depending on the student’s interests.
