SpaceHopper on a Parabolic Flight
In this project, you will have the chance to support the improvement of the legged robot SpaceHopper and the development of test facilities to deploy the robot on a parabolic flight.
In last year's focus project, a team of ten students built SpaceHopper, a three-legged robot for low-gravity space exploration. Using reinforcement learning controllers, the robot can jump and reorient using only its legs. In the next phase, we will deploy the robot on a parabolic flight within a project supported by ESA. There, we will test the robot's jumping and reorientation capabilities in microgravity. To this end, we need to modify the robot according to the safety standards of the flight company and develop a suitable test setup.
