First measurements with an instrumented campus board
Climbers train their finger strength on the campus board. If the forces at the bars are measured, performance analysis becomes possible. In a recent bachelor thesis, we designed an instrumentation for a campus board which should now be further developed to run first experiments in campus board training.
Keywords: Force sensing, biomechanics
So far, various research groups have instrumented and commercialised hangboards to control the training of climbers and to document training progress. In contrast to hangboards, training on campus boards enables even more specific climbing movements. So far, we have carried out measurements in a campus board-like setup with very expensive sensor technology and have been able to distinguish between athletes more specifically than any instrumented hangboard can do. In addition, we have recently designed an instrumentation which can now be extended to measure forces at standard campus boards in an affordable manner. Next to the extension and another verification of the specifications, we aim now for first measurements to establish a climbig specific analysis tool.
