Energy System Characterization of Accra
You will work with partners in Ghana to characterize the energy system of Accra for the purposes of energy system modeling. This includes defining the existing energy system, renewable energy resource potentials, and planning limitations in order to develop appropriate energy models and scenarios.
Keywords: urban energy system planning; developing countries; energy scenario development
Accra is committed to sustainable energy development and climate resilience planning, and is a member of the C40 Cities and Global Covenant of Mayors networks. Empa is currently working with the city and several Ghanaian researchers in order to develop advanced modeling methods to support sustainable energy planning for developing cities.
In this project, you will work with partners in Ghana in order to characterize the current energy system of Accra for the purposes of energy system modeling. Accra will serve as a case study city and, therefore, it is vital to characterize the existing energy system, renewable energy resource potentials, and planning limitations in order to develop appropriate energy models and scenarios.
Project Type:
- Semester project
- Duration: one semester (or accelerated)
Skill Set:
Background in engineering, energy science or similar; strong understanding of energy conversion systems and technologies; experience with data processing and handling in Excel; resourcefulness; effective communication and time management skills; independent and self-motivated researcher.
Project language: English
