PhD position in image analysis / artificial intelligence for skin diseases diagnostic
A PhD position is available at ZHAW Sensors and Measurement Systems group in Winterthur in the field of image analysis / artificial intelligence for skin diseases diagnostic.
Active thermal imaging is a well-known investigation method in engineering. Recently, the technic has proven it's efficacy as an easy to use diagnostic tool in dermatology.
In the framework of a EUROSTARS project with a leading industrial partner, the Sensors and Measurement Systems group is currently developing an innovative active thermography-based diagnostic device. To develop the key component of this apparatus, that is how the images data are processed and analysed, we are looking for a talented PhD candidate.
The successful candidate has completed a Master’s degree in engineering or natural sciences. He or she must have prior exposure and strong interest in image processing using artificial intelligence.
Good command of english is essential (German is an advantage). If of interest, the PhD can be involved in teaching activities at ZHAW.
We offer a competitive, scientifically stimulating, and exciting environment as part of the EUROSTARS project DermaIR in cooperation with the company Fotofinder GmbH and the University of Basel. The project is interdisciplinary at the frontier of engineering and medicine.
The candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the University of Basel under the supervision of Prof. Alexander Navarini. Besides, he or she will participate to the "Network in Data Science" (https://phd-data-science.ch/en/) and will benefit from the possibility to follow many courses.

The goal of the PhD project is to study the link between skin physiology and transient skin surface temperature and to develop specific AI algorithms to processed transient thermal images for automatic diagnostic.
