Mobility Concepts 2030 (RWTH Aachen Summer School)

APPLICATION CLOSED - 16 - 20 September, 2019 - Global megatrends as urbanization, digitization and environmental change lead to disruption both in society and in mobility. In this year’s Summer School we will figure out how the demand for urban mobility is going to change.

Keywords: Urban mobility, megatrends, urbanization, digitization, environmental change, 2030, IAA

  • Extended to 1 June, 2019 at 12 noon (CET)

  • 16 - 20 September, 2019

    16 - 20 September, 2019

  • Global megatrends as urbanization, digitization and environmental change lead to disruption both in society and in mobility. On the one hand, this has an impact on how people want to live and on their mobility preferences. On the other hand, these changes come with a multitude of new possibilities and technological innovations in the automotive sector. This year’s Summer School shall therefore serve as a platform to learn about how mobility is going to change and offers its participants to share and discuss different expectations and opinions at a high academic level. In forward thinking lectures to be held by internal and external experts from science and industry, the participants will get to know which global megatrends and which technologies will determine our mobility in 2030 and beyond. In a demanding interdisciplinary group work task, the participants will demonstrate how challenges and opportunities can be matched in the most advantageous way. A visit of the IAA (international automotive exhibition) will round off this mixture of theoretical input and practical work by offering the opportunity to experience the mobility of the future first hand at one of the most important automotive trade fairs in the world. In addition to this theoretical approach, IDEA League Summer Schools also provide the possibility to connect with high-achieving students from various different countries by taking part in an enriching international and interdisciplinary knowledge exchange. The 2019 Mobility Summer School is hosted by the Institute for Automotive Engineering (ika) of RWTH Aachen University, Europe’s leading institute in automotive engineering, whose approach encompasses the development of next-generation ideas and innovative concepts for components and systems up to vehicle-level prototypes. ika’s divisions work in public-funded as well as bilateral projects for manufacturers and suppliers in an automotive context.
