Local selective elimination of senescent cells: development of a reproducible readout for senescence induction and detection
Senescent cells (SNCs) are permanently growth-arrested cells that have been associated to several ageing related diseases, including cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). For these reasons, our lab aims to develop new formulations for the selective elimination of senescent ECs and CMs.
Keywords: cell culture drug testing senescence biomaterials hydrogels nanoparticles
In this project/thesis we will build on the existing protocols, and on the knowledge acquired by our lab to build a robust and reproducible experimental protocol for the induction of cellular senescence in HUVECs as well as for data analysis and quantification.

Tasks:
• Learning how to culture and expand HUVECs;
• Design, plan and carry out experimental protocols for senescence
• Immunochemistry staining;
• Analysis and quantification of image data;
• Possibly: drug testing on HUVECs
The proposed tasks can be adapted depending on the student needs and on the timeline. As the project involves cell culture, we would prefer thesis/internship students (more than 10 weeks). We are looking for a motivated student, interested in learning new techniques. : )
