Medical Process Automation
Interdisciplinary development project for a 3D histology method in cooperation with University Hospital Zurich (USZ).
To detect early-stage cancer in e.g. the lymph system, histology images are being analyzed from lymph nodes. Due to the complex process of producing histology images, only a small part of the tissue gets analyzed. This leads to high information loss. A new process developed by the USZ and ETH should enable a full 3D image of the whole lymph node, ensuring exact diagnoses.
The goal of the project is not only to improve the In-vitro-Diagnostics, but to also achieve high automation of the process. We as the feasibility lab aim to support the development with a feasibility study on medical process automation with e.g. cartesian robots, computer vision systems
and other technologies

- Literature research and expert interviews to define the vision and requirements
- Development and fabrication of one or several prototypes
- Develop and build automated systems (including software)
- Test early and often to learn and improve your design
- The goal is to provide a showcase system with first functionalities
