Intern for the Analysis of Stakeholders' Positions on the Swiss Climate Policies (Ref-Nr. 4502-T2)
With the necessity for ambitious climate and energy policies to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 2050 in Switzerland, considering opinions from civil societies, organisations, associations, industry, energy service providers, etc., becomes crucial. The internship aims to understand the drivers that influence the positions of these stakeholders concerning the proposed energy and climate laws from the Federal Council.
**Your tasks:**
- Determine key drivers and factors influencing energy stakeholder’ opinions on climate policies by applying Machine Learning algorithms from the field of Natural Language Processing to the position papers from the consultation phase on the “Total Revision of the CO2 Act” (Bundesgesetz über die Verminderung von Treibhausgasemissionen).
- Apply suitable clustering algorithms to identify stakeholders with similar positions, even if they have, or represent, different interest groups.
- Perform sentiment analysis (positive, negative, neutral) on the stakeholder opinions towards the policies included in the “Total Revision of the CO2 Act”.
**Your profile:**
- Master studies in the field of environmental policy, data science or political science (Master thesis should not have been completed)
- Good knowledge of English and German
- Experience with scientific programming, e.g., Python, Julia or R
- Solid understanding and interest in Swiss energy and climate policy
- Efficient reader
