Investigation of the effect of matrix rich zone on damage tolerance of thin ply thermoplastic composites

This study tries to understand on “influence of matrix rich layers on interlaminar fractures for thin ply thermoplastic composites.”

Keywords: Thermoplastic composite materials; Thin ply; Interlaminar Mode I fracture; Traction separation relation

  • Experimental and numerical studies have demonstrated the influence of interply and intraply resin-rich zones on inter and intralaminar fractures for carbon/epoxy composites. Weak interlaminar properties are attributed as a cause for delamination between plies. The addition of matrix-rich zones in thin ply thermoplastics might help improve interlaminar properties. Although significant studies addressed the delamination mechanisms of thermoset composites, very few works address the same regarding thin ply thermoplastic composites. This study conducted at CMASLab, tries to understand on “influence of matrix rich layers on interlaminar fractures for thin ply thermoplastic composites.”
