Design for AM in Chemical Engineering
In this interdisciplinary project the goal is to push forward the barriers in design for additive manufacturing (AM) in the field of chemical engineering.
The desire for sustainable production is transforming every industry. As the chemical industry is energy intensive and the products are consumed by everybody on a daily basis, the impact on sustainability of improved chemical production apparatus is high.
Using additive manufacturing complex designs can be produced. Therefore new concepts for chemical production equipment should be investigated in this project.
The desire for sustainable production is transforming every industry. As the chemical industry is energy intensive and the products are consumed by everybody on a daily basis, the impact on sustainability of improved chemical production apparatus is high. Using additive manufacturing complex designs can be produced. Therefore new concepts for chemical production equipment should be investigated in this project.
The preliminary work packages include the following:
- Get familiar with a specific process and its apparatus in chemical engineering (e.g. distillation, reaction, absorption...)
- Implement a new design concept using CAD for the specific process
- Manufacture a demonstrator of your design and test it
- Documentation of results (weekly & monthly meetings, midterm & final presentations, thesis)
The preliminary work packages include the following: - Get familiar with a specific process and its apparatus in chemical engineering (e.g. distillation, reaction, absorption...) - Implement a new design concept using CAD for the specific process - Manufacture a demonstrator of your design and test it - Documentation of results (weekly & monthly meetings, midterm & final presentations, thesis)
- a high level of motivation, hands-on mentality, and passion for the topic - done prior projects with experimental testing, hardware, and prototyping - experience with CAD-design tools and additive manufacturing - the desire to contribute to a sustainable future
