Research Internship: fMRI - Neurofeedback – Food Reward
Can people learn to down-regulate their own brain activity that reflects wanting appetizing foods? We are looking into this question with the help of real-time fMRI neurofeedback. We hope that this change in activity will subsequently change a subject’s appetite.
We have an open position for a research internship in the NeuroFoodReg project at the Rehabilitation Engineering Lab, ETH Zurich, starting immediately or as agreed. Find an overview of the project here: http://www.relab.ethz.ch/research/current-research-projects/neural-self-manipulation-of-food-reward-by-means-of-real-time-fm.html
The internship can be carried out part-time (min. 40%, 500 hours), or full-time (12 weeks) and is suitable for master students of health sciences, (neuro-)psychology, or similar.

You learn academic skills and help us collect real-time fMRI data
You learn academic skills and help us collect real-time fMRI data
In this internship:
- You will support the NeuroFoodReg Team in recruiting, conducting, and entering data for this exciting study. In the process, you will learn
- Data acquisition with fMRI (incl. real-time fMRI neurofeedback)
- Participant management with RedCap
- You will be responsible for an own data project on which you will work between measurements. The data are collected in the study, too (e.g. galvanic skin response, but also personality questionnaires, etc.). In this part of the internship you will practice
- Data analysis with MATLAB, and SPSS/R
- To draw conclusions from your own data analyses
- Presenting scientific content: there is a possibility to present your project in plenary.
Everything combined you will practice many of the basic skills that are important in research.

A successful candidate will:
- Be interested in neuroscientific research
- Be an independent and reliable worker
- Show flexibility with regards to work hours in the period of data acquisition
- Have good prior knowledge in statistics
- Be open to train herself or extend her skills in the software environment MATLAB (existing basic MATLAB-skills are an advantage)
