A review of information sources used by farmers for pest management decisions
Farmers use different information sources when making decisions and the sources they use may influence their farm level decisions. This thesis investigates information sources used by farmers for pest management decisions and how different sources affect their decisions.
Keywords: Agricultural economics, information sources, pest management
When farmers are making decisions they may consult many different information sources for example extension services, other farmers, magazines, associations and informal sources such as social media (e.g. Stuart et al., 2018; Jenkins et al. 2016). The information sources they use can affect their decisions. For example, Swiss fruit farmers using public extension services are more likely to use preventive pest management measures rather than synthetic pesticides compared to those advised by private services (Wuepper et al. 2021). This thesis will provide an overview of sources used by farmers when making pest management decisions and whether the sources affect farmers decisions. The scope of the thesis can be chosen by the student (e.g. information sources related to a certain topic or in general, how sources have changed over time, sources across countries).

The goal of this thesis is to provide an overview of information sources used by farmers and the effect of different information sources on their pest management decisions. A literature review will be conducted to identify studies investigating information sources used by farmers and their findings.
