Open OpportunitiesFast and efficient structure optimization based on parametrized shapes in surrogate fluid simulation environment. - Engineering and Technology, Information, Computing and Communication Sciences, Physics
- Bachelor Thesis, Master Thesis, Semester Project
| Robotic Manipulation is one of the areas of robotics which has benefited the most from recent advances in large pre-trained machine learning models. At the Soft Robotics Lab, we aim to leverage such models for innovative applications to multi-task manipulation of rigid and soft objects. In this thesis, we plan to 1) set up a manipulation pipeline for control and data collection, and 2) advance the state of imitation learning by leveraging pre-trained semantic models. - Intelligent Robotics, Knowledge Representation and Machine Learning
- Internship, Master Thesis, Semester Project
| Patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) are at high risk of suffering from future ASCVD events despite contemporary preventive therapies, and this risk has been termed “residual risk”. While the overall incidence of ASCVD has declined, the greatest decline has been in pre-hospital fatal events. Even with recent advances in cardiovascular interventions including statins, dual antiplatelet therapies, revascularization, and other therapies, ASCVD event rates among patients with prior ASCVD remain high (>3% per year). Furthermore, patients with ASCVD have a range of risks, yet personalized risk stratification tools are lacking. - Information, Computing and Communication Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Medical and Health Sciences
- Master Thesis
| This thesis centers around the evaluation of a Digital Biomarker for COPD.

| Metabolomics is the study of small molecules in various tissues such as blood, urine, etc. Applications of metabolomics include monitoring of clinical trials and drug and biomarker discovery.
In a typical metabolomics experiment, samples are placed in numbered wells on plates and processed by mass spectrometer well by well, plate by plate. The resulting data can thus be interpreted as a high-dimensional time series. Metabolomic measurements are prone to batch effects, instrumental drifts and abrupt jumps, which need to be removed in a pre-processing step.
Change (or break) point detection considers the localization of abrupt distributional changes in time series. We propose to estimate drifts and jumps simultaneously with change point detection. - Biology, Information, Computing and Communication Sciences, Mathematical Sciences
- Master Thesis
| This Master's thesis will revolve around simulating a clinical decision-making environment for patient trajectory modeling and treatment recommendation systems. The project will create and validate a generative model for clinical time-series with causal constraints. - Engineering and Technology, Information, Computing and Communication Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Medical and Health Sciences

| In supermarkets, grocery stores or warehouses, we often
search products and goods which are suitable to our needs:
e.g. during shopping, we want to quickly know the ingredients
of a product. Today, consumer need to read small print on a
product’s backside or need to scan a product’s barcode – a
process which requires sufficient illumination, high-resolution
camera, proximity between product and smartphone, and an
active command from the user or app to scan the barcode.
Soon, this process might become more natural – e.g., through
smart glasses or Mixed Reality headsets, which automatically
detect product category or size, even without scanning its barcode.
In “GoodOnFocus” project, you will use computer
vision to automatically identify products. - Computer Vision
- Master Thesis
| In this project, we will look at the intersection of differential privacy and fairness of machine learning algorithms. To do this, we will exploit recent learning theoretic results showing equivalence of online and private learning. This internship is expected to be very theoretical with minimal coding.
The applicant is expected to be knowledgeable about learning theory and particularly online learning. This includes being able to read and understand papers on PAC learnability, generalisation of machine learning models, etc.
It is also helpful but not strictly required to be knowledgable about differential privacy. - Artificial Intelligence and Signal and Image Processing, Statistics
- Collaboration, ETH Organization's Labels (ETHZ), Internship, Student Assistant / HiWi
