Institute of Technology in ArchitectureOpen OpportunitiesA unique LED-based solar simulator has been developed in-house and successfully commissioned this spring at the Lab of the Professorship of Architecture and Building Systems at ETH Zurich (https://systems.arch.ethz.ch/zero-carbon-building-systems-lab). For the first tests and to establish performance maps of this new infrastructure we are looking for a skilled student (engineering background) with experience in experimental measurement and/or simulation techniques related to building and/or light engineering. - Electrical Engineering, Engineering/Technology Instrumentation, Heat and Mass Transfer Operations, Mechanical Engineering
- ETH Zurich (ETHZ), Internship, Lab Practice, Master in Integrated Building Systems (ETHZ), Master Thesis, Semester Project, Studies on Engineering Design (ETHZ)
| Recent developments of renewable composites based on Mycelium have shown a tremendous potential in repurposing low value agricultural and industrial waste into high value sustainable products. In the construction industry, mycelium-based materials have already gained traction for non-structural applications, such as thermal and acoustical panels, thanks to their naturally high insulative properties as well as their resistance to fire. Despite these qualities, their application into architectural application is still disregarded. Lack of structural material properties and the poor integration into current development of digital manufacturing are amongst the factors preventing their use. In this project we want to investigate further material performance for mycelium composites for construction. - Biomaterials, Composite Materials, Fermentation, Biotechnology and Industrial Microbiology
- ETH Zurich (ETHZ), Internship, Other specific labels, Semester Project
