| Design effort and the associated costs are key factors which are limiting the adoption of additive manufacturing in industrial applications. One approach to tackle this problem is the use of automated design tools, which reduce the manual design effort to achieve manufacturable designs. In current research at pdz, we have been working on developing an automated design workflow for hydraulic manifolds. Several steps in the process chain have been tackled so far. - Mechanical Engineering

| In this interdisciplinary project the goal is to push forward the barriers in design for additive manufacturing (AM) in the field of chemical engineering. To better understand the flow inside additively manufactured parts computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations should be performed. - Engineering and Technology

| Metal Binder Jetting (MBJ) has emerged as a promising and complementing process for metal AM next to Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF). MBJ has many advantages but also brings new challenges, which have direct implications for the design process. In previous research at pdz automated design tools for LPBF have been developed. The goal of this project is to develop application-specific design guidelines for MBJ and integrate these into a current design workflow for LPBF, enabling the automated design of hydraulic manifolds manufactured with MBJ. This project is performed in close collaboration with an industrial partner. - Engineering and Technology
