Open OpportunitiesWe are searching for an intern to work on the detection of infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance in wastewater. We are a research and surveillance laboratory that uses state-of-the-art methods on culture- and molecular-based detection of pathogens in complex matrices. We are looking for interns to help us with our surveillance of wastewater for respiratory pathogens including influenza, respiratory syncytial virus, and coronaviruses, as well as surveillance of antimicrobial resistance include MRSA and VRE. Interns are trained on methods for the molecular detection using digital PCR, an advanced tool for quantitative detection of nucleic acids, as well as on extraction of DNA and RNA. Interns are also engaged in the development of new assays, and contribute to management and logistics aspects of the work. All of our methods are directly relevant to commonly used tools in research and clinics for routine diagnostics. - Environmental Sciences, Microbiology
